It's been ages since I've posted, probably because I wasn't doing a lot of painting on site...
The other day I pulled out a 20 year old sketch book, and decided to do an oil sketch from one of them; a view of the center of Huntington, MA.....
Now, I've discovered that to paint successfully from a sketch, I need to remember the original inspiration. My first oil sketch from the old pencil sketch "forgot" what the real emotion was.
It's just a comic book colored-in image.
What was it really about?
It was about how sometimes, when you drive up Route 20 from Westfield, into Huntington, you are treated to a brilliant flash of sun light that has found its way between the shadowed hills. Startling and beautiful.
So now I have a plan for my next oil painting!
